I first traveled to Cabo San Lucas with my parents in 1991. They had retired to Tucson, AZ in the mid-80s, and then purchased a timeshare at the Pueblo Bonito Cabo Resort a few years later. By the mid-90s, my folks purchased another timeshare at a new resort up the coast, Hacienda Del Mar, which had a beautiful golf course, multiple pools overlooking the beach and good restaurants. I made a few trips with my parents before they died and one trip by myself in mid-90s. I inherited the new timeshare at Hacienda del Mar in 2008.

Over the years, Alastair and I have made multiple trips to Cabo, always staying at Hacienda del Mar. One of our favorite trips was in March of 2014 when we had a 2-story unit for the week located just above one of the beach side pools – gorgeous!

An added attraction that week watching the Cabo Ironman athletes during the swim, bike and run segments. It was a day long event between Palmilla Beach and San Jose del Cabo. There were hundreds of people on the courses cheering them on, and quite a few bands on the streets downtown for the final stretch of the run – very festive!

The highlight of our trip in February 2020 was swimming with whale sharks! I wrote a separate post about that. It’s still one of our favorite memories of our trips to the Baja. However, those visiting in the near future, may not get that opportunity because, as of February 2023, whale shark swimming tours in La Paz have been suspended until further notice.  The suspension is due to the low number of whale sharks present in the Bay of La Paz Refuge Area.

We’ve explored the area around Cabo quite a bit, from La Paz to San Jose del Cabo, and now have our favorite places to shop, eat, drink, get a massage, swim and snorkel.

Our most recent trip to Cabo was October 2022. For 2 weeks, we relaxed, ate some awesome food at Mariscos Pata Salada and Fish in Taco, worked out every day in the hotel gym, took walks on the beach (we had a full moon the first night!), went for massages, and sipped tequila in the evenings.

I will always enjoy being near the ocean and relaxing in a beautiful location, but after over 30 years of trips to Cabo and only 3 years left on the timeshare lease, I’m now happy to share the good times and give my week to family and friends.
