Three years ago this month, I participated in the Slam the Dam 8K open water swim in Lake Mead, Nevada. It was a great event, and I was well prepared, having done three 5-mile training swims prior to the race. Conditions were perfect for the race, and my partner Alastair was the best kayak escort I could have hoped for. We had worked out our routine with feeding and signals, and he kept me perfectly on course. 2014 was the final year for Slam the Dam, so I’m happy to have had the chance to do it. As the organizers say on their website, “For now, Elvis has left the Dam!”
