I did the Iceman Triathlon at Lake Pleasant two years ago and really enjoyed it, and this year was even better! Going into it, I was confident about the open water swim having trained for cold water and weekly swims at twice or more the course distance of 750 yards. I thought I would be undertrained for the bike, which was a hilly, 13 mile course. For the hilly 5k run, I had planned to mostly walk it, and run just enough to hit a 12 min/mi pace. My overall concern was how the combination of the three events would affect my body, given my musculoskeletal issues (more about this in a future post). I’m thrilled to say that all went well! I met some great people, felt good during and after, and placed first in my age group!
