On October 16, 2011, I did my first open water swim event, Round-the-Sound Swimathon, which was held in Bermuda in the Harrington Sound. I chose Bermuda for my first event because I used to take many holidays to the island in the 90s, and still have friends there. It remains one of my favorite places!

The distances were 10k, 7.25k, 4k, 2k, .8k – I chose to swim the 4k (2.5 miles).  The conditions were perfect, the event was very well organized, and I met some great people. A wonderful first-time OWS experience! It’s on my bucket list to return to do the 10k.
