107 swimmers participated in the AZ Open Water Swim Series #2 at Bartlett Lake today. Distance options were 4K, 2K and 1K – I swam the 4K. Water temperature was 67F, almost too warm in a wetsuit, but I need more experience swimming in it before the Great North Swim in June at Lake Windermere. I finished 16th out of 30 overall in the 4K. The average age of the swimmers that finished before me: 26. I was the 2nd oldest swimmer in the 4K, so feeling good about my performance today.

We found out after the event that the course longer than 4K.  The race organizer said, “Each lap was about 250 meters longer due to the placement of the green start buoy. The water level had changed since mapping it out, which caused everyone to swim a little more.”  So I actually swam 5K in 1:36:59.
